I've noticed disparity between QL predicted velocity and actual velocity. I think it's due to variability of burn rate. Since pressure is one of my main concerns in this game, I relate the actual velocities I see with the pressures required to produce them as predicted by QL. This technique seems to be viable. I know that burn rate can be adjusted in the powder database but I have not bothered to do that. It just does not seem to be necessary, at least not for my own purposes.

Chamber size and powder lot variability can play into things too. I usually get a chrono reading and change the case capacity function on ql till it matches chrono speed and work up from there. Also temp should be matched....usually 1 degree down from 70 degrees equals about 1 fps. Not a perfect way to do it...but quick and effective for me.
To the original poster....could you go to public land and run a few over your chrono to check?
Must be somewhere you could do that....once in a while I go to a buddy's house just outside town...line up w/a stump and run a few off.....w/his permission of course!

thanks guys.
Kraky,,, have not lived out here long enough to find those places yet

Randy,

If your club has longer ranges, ie: 200, 300, 400 yds, you may be able to get a good idea of MV by measuring drop at longer distances with a 100 yard zero and plug your date in a ballistic calculator.

JD
public range is 100 yards, only the private clubs has the longer ranges.
I don't have the funds at this point to join.
Seriously miss Nevada :(
