QL request for 7mm Weatherby Magnum

I'm getting a 7mm Wby Mag with an P14 Enfield receiver and a 24" ER Shaw barrel. My plan is to use Swift's 150gn Scirocco IIs, 160gn A-Frames, or Nosler's 160gn Accubonds. A run of Quick Load would be appreciated.

I have Quickload and do not understand why anyone asks for Quickload runouts.
First you need the case capacity in grains of H2O
Then you need to have a chronograph and change the burn rate in quickload until the velocities match to even start getting semi accurate information.

Quickload is nothing more than computer generated guesstimates and you must remember that the firearm used and the reloading components all vary. Meaning your better off looking at the published data by the bullet manufactures than using computer generated guesstimates.

And this is why the manuals tell you to start at the suggested start load and work up.

If you look in the Lyman manual you will see a universal receiver and a pressure test barrel are used for pressure testing. This barrel has a bore at minimum SAAMI dimensions and it will register the highest pressures. If this method isn't use then a strain gauge is glued the barrel and a cartridge of a known pressure if fired to calibrate the unit. Any time you see a specific firearm being used for testing a strain gauge is used.

This is why the manuals vary so much at times, the Hornady manual lists for the .223 with 55 grain bullets and H335 powder 23.2 grains as max. In the Sierra manual with the same powder and their 55 grain bullets the max load is 27.5. So what is a computer program that gives estimates by what you input into it going to tell you if you don't feed it all the data from your rifle.

I have Quickload and do not understand why anyone asks for Quickload runouts.
First you need the case capacity in grains of H2O
Then you need to have a chronograph and change the burn rate in quickload until the velocities match to even start getting semi accurate information.

Quickload is nothing more than computer generated guesstimates and you must remember that the firearm used and the reloading components all vary. Meaning your better off looking at the published data by the bullet manufactures than using computer generated guesstimates.

And this is why the manuals tell you to start at the suggested start load and work up.

If you look in the Lyman manual you will see a universal receiver and a pressure test barrel are used for pressure testing. This barrel has a bore at minimum SAAMI dimensions and it will register the highest pressures. If this method isn't use then a strain gauge is glued the barrel and a cartridge of a known pressure if fired to calibrate the unit. Any time you see a specific firearm being used for testing a strain gauge is used.

This is why the manuals vary so much at times, the Hornady manual lists for the .223 with 55 grain bullets and H335 powder 23.2 grains as max. In the Sierra manual with the same powder and their 55 grain bullets the max load is 27.5. So what is a computer program that gives estimates by what you input into it going to tell you if you don't feed it all the data from your rifle.

I wasn't going to reply to this and if it crosses lines, then the mods can delete with no hard feelings from me, but I've had a crappy couple weeks and decided to reply.

I have no doubt that with the knowledge potentially revealed by your posts, you could be a very valuable contributor to this forum.
Once again, I DO agree with what you posted but ran what the OP asked for.
Here's why.
First, this is a terrific forum with some fine people on it.
Second, one of those fine people asked. That's enough for me.
Third, who am I to judge what someone else does with data asked for and posted on some cartridge or rifle? I don't expect others to tell me what rifle, cartridge or load to shoot; I am certainly not going to do that to someone else.
Fourth, just maybe, the data posted might be valid in this instance. Who knows? I am again far from qualified to determine that.
Fifth, I am quite certain the OP and most others on this forum all own multiple copies of loading manuals as I have heard many of them referred to or referenced.
Sixth, the folks here that ask for a QL generally do so to see what may be possible or reference it versus results they have obtained, and so forth.
Seventh, (and last) while at the moment I am myself guilty of this....unnamed individuals that go on rants on forums just seem to irritate me, thus my answer also.

I posted what I did because I want everyone to know that Quickload isn't the gospel according to St. Reloader. And a trip to the Hogdon's website can be just as informative.

And if you enjoy printing out the hundreds of powder possibilities that's all that matters if it makes you happy. And I wasn't trying to steal your thunder, but at 65 and with over 47 years of reloading the old Powley Computer gave the same basic information. "BUT" all one has to do is cross reference velocity vs pressure to find the best powders in the reloading manuals. And this information came from actual pressure testing and not a computer program.

Having said this if I had to do it over again I would not have spent the money on Quickload because it is over priced and you have to "tune" Quickload to get accurate information.

Dwh7271, I have four reloading manuals. Two from nosler and one from speer and one from sierra. They are all fairly old and do not cover a lot of our newer powders and bullets. I can take a look a QL and get a darn good idea what powders I might want to try with a certain bullet. I do not care about exact data from QL or manuals for that matter. I always start low and work up watching for press. signs in my rifle. I do not rely on QL or manuals to keep myself out of trouble. That is my responsibility. Therefore I consider both manuals and QL as valuable guides. Yes I appreciate our forum members running QL for those that ask for it. I cannot see buying a new manual every time I want to try something different. I do shoot a lot with several calibers and wide variety of bullets and powder. QL helps big time even when using the QL defaults. thanks to our members for running QL for us. :) :)

Having run a lot of case capacities similar to the 7bee mag I think you will find RL26 hard to beat. But have found that the burn rate tends to be a bit faster than QL predicts it.

Start at 3-5% down and look for velocity predicted by QL, it will put you really close on finding goods loads for the bullets you mentioned.
 
Thanks again for the data. Having starting points for multiple powders is a great aspect of reloading.
