I was finally able to smoke a WT doe with my 35 Whelen! First whitetail since 1993 and my first doe ever! There is not much of a story though.

I stayed up at home for the New Years so I didn't get up early. It was WAY to cold to sit in a tree stand so I decided to just still hunt in the snow. It was around 20 inches deep, so there was some "post holeing" going on! I got there about 9:30 and made my way towards the woods. I didn't make it to the woods. As I was approaching I saw a doe at about 150 but didn't have a rest. There was a brush pile in between me and the doe so I crouched down and started that direction.

Right as I started, a BIG buck jumped up to my right and there was a doe behind him that stood there, for just a little too long. I took a kneeling position, placed the cross hairs on her shoulder and sent the 200gr Fusion on it's way. I knew she was hit and hit hard. She fell on to her front end and "submarined" in the snow in a small circle and it was over. Ranged the shot. 85 yards. This was a 9:55!

She was standing at the base of the two smaller trees in the distance left of center.

Found this lung tissue in the snow about 15 feet from where she fell

This is the ENTRANCE! It clipped the elbow on the way in and I think that is part of why this looks so drastic.

A nice big fat doe, no better eating than that. Congratulations she looks in fine shape. !!!

Congratulations on the doe. The 35 Whelen is a hammer on WT deer. I loke the looks of the M700 Classic, I have the same rifle. ;)

Nice. I have used some fusions in my 270 and they kick some major butt. I think I shot 4 buck with them and only one wasn't an instant drop. Wish they sold them for reloading.

Nicely done Mike. That 200gr Fusion did it's job. THANKS FOR THE PICS AND SHARING YOUR STORY.

Nice!..It's not way to go, but Whelen to go (y) ..Nice Doe, and great caliber too!..It well handle anything in NA :) ..If I didn't have a 375, the whelen would have been in my safe long ago, congrats on a fine Doe.

Not to take away from the thread...but aren't Fusions loaded with Speer Deep Curls?

Congrats on the nice doe! Nice way to ring in the New Year!

Thanks guys! I think they are supposed to be deep curls, I ran one into some jugs a while back. Tore off a couple pieces, but I was only about 20 feet from them when I touched it off!

Nice doe. Haven't shot any deer with my Whelen but they sure do anchor cow elk very nicely. I've been shooting the 225 gr. TSX in mine.
