Step 1. for a Quickload request is the case capacity of a fired case from your rifle. Without the correct case capacity the chamber pressure can vary as much as 6,000 to 8,000 psi.

Step 2. for approximate Quickload data you need a chronograph and then change the burn rate in Quickload until the velocities match the velocity from your rifle. To be truthful reloading data from the Hodgdon's would be more accurate than a computer generated guess.

You have a sticky at the top of the page that explains all of this. I have Quickload and I'm surprised at all the Quickload requests here and the forum members not reading the sticky. Quickload needs to be tweaked and tuned to output accurate data, anything else is just a WAG.

Don't be scared to give RL17 a shot in the 7x57 either. Have had nothing but excellent luck with 150 BTs and PTs running RL17. Very good speeds as well.

I run my 7x57 at the 60K mark with 17 and it is amazing. Really performs way above its weight class.
 
Thanks Scotty et al. Before I got this I loaded 45 to 49 grain in 1 grain increments. At 49 grains there are no pressure signs at all, think I'm ok or back it off? 49 grains should be at 60k. I don't have 17 but I'll look for some. The shots for 48 grains and 49 grains were touching so I'm guessing that's where the accuracy is. It's in a tang safety Ruger so the action should be pretty strong and able to handle 60k, don't you think?
 
Palouser. I have the same make rifle as Scotty and I worked up to his max load. No stiff bolt lift, prime pockets still tight and very high velocity. Still, my next run with RE17 is gonna be a bit more conservative. Couple of reasons, much of my test shooting is in temps running 100 degrees or higher. Pressures show up a lot faster on those days. The other reason is that on the rare occasion my wife decided to hunt with me and has a tag, she grabs that rifle. I put a Pachmeyr Decelerator pad on it more for her comfort than anything else. I do love that M70 FWT. I still have to load up a few rounds with different seating depths to see if it'll improve accuracy with the 150 gr. Nosler Partition. I'll also be running a few Nosler 150 gr. ABLRs to see if they'll work in that rifle.
I'm sure you're familiar with the fact that the 7x57 isn't loaded to it's full potential because of the old 93 and 95 Mausers that are considered too weak which explains the wussy factory ammo and wimpy load data in the manuals. At one time, Sierra did not even cheat fair, using a rifle with a 29" barrel. :shock:
The more I play with my 7x57's the more I like them.

With a good action like that it's fine. Most data is loaded much lower to prevent issues with the early Mauser actions in which they were chambered. I load mine heavy in my M70. Don't over look H 414 I'm running 48 with a 150 PT lights out.

You'd be more than fine with 60K. Brass is lasting well and accuracy is very good.

You are correct and as has been stated before -many times- any Q/L request should be treated as a reference just like a loading manual. Now IF an individual want the best accuracy they should adhere to the sticky.
 
Sorry guys, I haven't posted much since last winter and the sticky for the QL must have come up since then because I have never seen it. Sorry to waste your time and to make redundant posts.

Your not wasting anyone's time. Ask what you want. We will always work to tune you up the best we can.
