6.5mm 129 gr ABLR

Jim, they are fun rifles to have!

I have about 60rds down mine, and got to 2" at 200 with it, getting about 3200fps for a 140AB. That should prove effective on whitetails? :)

I am looking forward to trying them in my new M70 Super Grade 264 Win Mag!
The one I am going to buy from Fotis. :)

That would be a super combo for ya Jim..

I tried 5 different combinations, all the loads seated at 2.850" did better than the loads at 2.870". The highest charge I tried was 44 gr H 4350 and I had a clear winner at a bit over 2900 fps. I may tweak it a bit later but I'm happy with it as is. This load is .110" off the lands in my Savage 10 Predator Hunter Max 1

At 200 yards? That's pretty good, Gerry. It will work for about anything you choose to hunt. Fine shooting.

Nice shooting Gerry!
Your 260 Rem with the 129 gr ABLR looks to be a winning combination.

I have some 6.5mm 129 gr ABLR's on the way for my 6.5mm Rem Mag. I am expecting to get close to 3100 fps. If they shoot, I just may use them this Nov for wolf and deer.

That bullet should be a rocket out of the small 6.5's and a complete monster in the bigger cased 6.5's. Thinking if they run anything like the other ABLR's they will be FAST!

Might give them a shot, even though I said I wouldn't.. Be better if you 264 guy run them, so I can live vicariously through you though.

Got back today and we just spent 8 hours butchering our 6 deer my hunting partner and I got. The deer are small over in the Queen Charlotte Islands but are fun to hunt and very tasty :) I got 3 does all with the 129 gr ABLR, one with a head shot, one with a neck shot and the biggest doe with a lung shot. The first two were a bit messy which isn't too surprising with a softer high velocity bullet hitting heavy bone, with the lung shot deer the bullet only left an exit wound around 1 1/4" in diameter. I would say it performs exactly as Nosler planned and would make a great long range load that can still be used up close. For a meat hunt obviously a slower expanding bullet would be preferred especially over there where most shots are under 100 yards and often much closer. It is a well designed bullet that will continue to see use in my gun for areas where long shots are expected.

Great report, Gerry. Looks to have been a fine hunt. I've often thought of going over to the QC for a deer hunt. I've put it on my bucket list.

You won't regret it especially if the weather is as good as we had it. I have to admit that after hunting over 30 hours in 3 days we are both pretty tired but are going to go out for the last day of moose season tomorrow, at least for the morning.

Gerry, QC seems like it would be a great place for me to give the lever-action .30-30 Glenfield a workout. You guys made quite a haul of venison!

Congrats!

Guy

Thanks Guy your 30-30 would be perfect for hunting over there, there is plenty of room in B.C. for a man like you too :) we can send 10 liberals south in compensation :)
