So I have been wanting to upgrade the scope on my Hawkeye African from the old Burris 1.75-5x. I Really like the straight tube "African look" but still needed enough power to shoot elk and mule deer out to 3-350 yards so wanted something up to 6x. I couldn't afford a Swarovski z6 1-6x or any of...
Anyone have any thing good or bad to say about these rifle? I was in sportsmans today and they had a 270 with wood far exceeding any supergrade I have seen in the past - almost custom shop nice. Couldn't pass it up so I put it on lay away.
Seems the new trigger system is pretty nice - this one...
I apologize in advance if the Moderators feel this is not the right area for this, but I thought I would start a thread to share your hunting rig - truck, jeep, UTV - Whatever you consider your rig. We share rifles, loads, hunting pics - why not your hunting rigs???!
I just picked up a 2014...
She most certainly still shoots!!! Set my target at 100 and shot 3 shots - 5" low, 4" right - but all 3 in 7/8". Made my adjustments and shot 3 more. Dead center, 2" high - shots into 1". Let the barrel cool, put a new target and reshot - Dead center, 2" high - 3 shots into 7/8" again.
Loads...
Taking rifle out to shoot tomorrow, have 260 nosler partitions in hornady brass, fed 215, behind 76.0 of reloader 15 - shoots at 2850 FPS. Will have a full report when finished.
On a side note, if I can swing it before October Elk season, I have access to an amazing deal on a zeiss terra 2-7x32
Please don't take the wrong because I am a die hard nosler fan, but BOTW was kind of scrambling for sponsors/options once Gunwerks split up. Berger followed gunwerks and BOTW looks like it turned to Nosler. Sounds like a little sponsor advertising love...lol
That would mean shelling out a lot of money for a leupold...I could spend a little more and get a real scope like a Zenith, HT, or z6....Sorry, not a big leupold fan
I mentioned a couple months back my desire to "Africanize" the appearance of my 375 Ruger. I had in my mind something along the lines of a Remington custom shop African Big Game Rifle.
I ordered a boyds stock with the following custom options:
Nutmeg Laminate Classic
Ebony fore end tip
Ebony...
As you guys know, I have a Bushmaster Predator AR 15 (rifle only) and Tikka T3 superlite with leupold scope, 308 for sale. I am open to trading both rifles (approx. $1500-1600) in total value straight across for a weatherby accumark in 30-378 or 338-378 or a Remington Sendero in .300 RUM...
Can anyone start me off with some starting data? Possibly with r15 if possible but open to much of anything. If I do this load, I will be trying to seat longer than standard 2.800.
If I cant/don't sell my tikka 308, I had an idea to run by you all. Can I take a long action magazine and load 308 rounds a little longer (assuming they chamber fine) and be good to go? Specifically looking at trying 190 accubond long range.
So I really would like to get into competitive shooting...Probably 600 yard max to start (even that's probably to far for me right now). I was reading about a new class of shooting called F-AR 15 - Essentially bring out your scoped AR 15 and shoot.
Anyways, anyone who does could you provide...
I know this is the reloading forum, but close enough...
I bought this ammo today and shot it, grouped very well in my Para Expert 1911...Good enough that I bought another box. I have in mind of having this loaded in my pistol for home protection, but also and more importantly, 185 JHP...

I know this is Remington, but this is what I have envisioned for the rifle as far as a "African Look" with the nutmeg stock, streamlined layout and black accents. Obviously my stock will be more glossy and a leupold scope will be mounted on...
Without doubt, my favorite rifle I have owned is my Ruger 77 Hawkeye African in .375 Ruger. This is a special "gloss finish" rifle that wears a Burris Fullfield 3-9x40 scope. The rifle has a trigger job set at 3.5 # and is glass bedded. Over the last 4 years, it has killed Elk, Mule Deer, Bears...
So I was able to chronograph this load today (45.0 r15, 22.5" tikka factory barrel) and I was right in the 2900 FPS range...I had settled on this because it shoots 3 shots into 6/10th of an inch. Sighted in 2" high at 100 yards for 215 yard zero.
Well after getting home I ran the ballistic...
Couldn't find any 165's at local Sportsmans Warehouse, so I got some 150's. Loaded Reloader 15, loads of 44.0, 44.5, 45, 45.5....All the loads shot within 1.25" at 100, the 45.0 load was 3 shots 6/10th of an inch...According to the book, should be about 2850-2900 fps...With a 200 yard zero only...
