Picked up an old BDL in 30-06 for my son recently. I couldn't pass it up as the price was good and it is in great shape. Came with a Weaver V-9W that is still usable.
He loaded his own for the first time and really enjoyed it. We figured we'd use a tried and true load of IMR-4350 and 165gr...
I was just prepping brass for a friend's M70 Fwt in .223Rem. I went to clean the rifle and determine max OAL for 55gr NBTs when I had difficulty pushing the first wet patch through.
Rutro.
I finally got a brush through it and it's ugly. I spent a good hour working a CLP-soaked brush through...
I have a BDL in 30-06 which I picked with the intention of making it a donor for a 35 Whelen. Things happened and we needed another rifle that same year so I loaded up some 165gr PTs over IMR-4350 and it shot great. Didn't have the time to invest to look for a better load and honestly didn't...
Worked up some loads for my fishing bud's Ruger Mk. 77 in 270Win recently. The trigger is a bit creepy and the old Redfield lacks in resolution but it certainly shoots well and is a fine hunting iron. He was pleased with my work and should be ready to take to the field this month.
I loaded up...
I am in need of 5 or 10 round mags for an M1A. Until I am able to move from my current residence, this is the only way I can legally shoot my rifle. Even a link to a source would be helpful. Currently the online auctions are in a price gouging frenzy. Painful.
Distance to jugs was 25yds and MV = 2950fps. Bullet was found in 5th jug with expansion diameter = .491". I'm satisfied with this performance. I may get better trauma from the 115gr BT but I feel comfortable shooting any deer or Black bear with this bullet.
EDIT - retained weight was 71.5gr.
Nothing surprising here. Distance to jugs was 25yds and MV = 2435fps. Expansion diameter = .672" and retained weight is 149.8gr. Found in 6th jug with no sign of nose lead to be found.
I've been wanting to test this bullet out for a long time and finally got around to it today. Distance to jugs was 25 yds and MV is 2450fps. Retained weight was 194.5gr. Yeah, I was very surprised. Expansion diameter = .783". Found between 5th and 6th jug.
I don't own #7 but figured you want to be aware of this.

I plan on only shooting .223 ammo in an AR-based rifle. It will be a walkabout predator rifle. I was thinking about getting it chambered in 5.56 just in case I run into a mess of military fodder. This way I would not be pushing the pressure envelope.
Will the larger chamber/freebore of a...
A hunter in this area shot his best friend in the shoulder and killed him last week. He thought he was a deer. :? Neither hunter was wearing blaze orange as they were on posted land. I would doubt that anyone reading this here would make the same mistake but please reinforce the basics to...
I have a Leupold Vari-X III 2.5-8x36 on my 30-06 which I'm going to break down soon. Is there still an interest in these old scopes? I see them on the auction sites for $250-400. It amazes me that they still draw this much? Are they still riding the Leupold wave of affection which I just never...
There's a Rem Model 81 in 35Rem at the local gun shop that keeps attracting my attention. Not sure why as I have no desire to shoot a semi-auto in the woods but it keeps pulling me back. It is in good shape for it's age with no obvious defects other than its experience. Anyone have any...
I recently completed a 20-day trip to NW Colorado with some friends. My first attempt for elk and mule deer. We hunted in Unit # 231 for elk and #28 for deer. Overall the trip was outstanding. We all saw elk and had several chances at some nice bulls but things didn't pan out. We took two cows...
Going to Colorado soon for my first elk adventure. I, along with 5 others in the party, have either sex elk tags. I would be happy with a cow, raghorn or a mature bull. I'd love a mature bull though.
DIY hunting in the timber SW of Yampa from 9500-11000ft in the Flat Tops area. Four of our...
I've finally got some free time this month to make a few range trips. Was able to re-visit some old loads and play with some new powders.
Haven't played with the 25-06 in ages and now that I have a chrony I thought it may be time to re-visit an old load and checkout Reloader 19 for the first...
The folks I'm hunting with in Colorado this fall all use Garmin Rinos, not sure which model, and they requested that I get one too. Between my map/compass skills and the handheld GPS I already own, I feel well equipped to handle anything. They like the locator feature the Rinos offer. I also...
I'm extremely pleased with Mitt's choice for VP. I feel Ryan has a very keen sense for financial and budget issues and the temerity to go face to face with anyone. This country needs a no nonsense approach for it's financial ills and Mr Ryan has the acumen and determination to get us on the...
