QuickLoad Request and powder questions .280 Ackley Improved

DrMike - resurrecting an old thread. Can QuickLoad go off of Ogive measurements instead of COAL? Measuring factory Nosler Trophy Grade 140gr Accubonds I get a COAL of 3.238 corresponding to a 2.685 measurement from base to Ogive. Measuring the max chamber size in my rifle, using 160gr...

QuickLoad Request and powder questions .280 Ackley Improved

Yes, 26 seems to be a great starting point for sure. If it is accurate, and I hear it is also fairly temperature stable, I will probably stop looking there once I get a load / seating depth I am comfortable with. Anything accurate over 2900fps I will probably count my blessings and be satisfied.

QuickLoad Request and powder questions .280 Ackley Improved

Thank you for all of this effort - it appears I can safely try to sell my stock of Reloder 33. From the information above, it also appears Reloder 26, in theory, is a good place to focus my attention on. Thanks again,

QuickLoad Request and powder questions .280 Ackley Improved

Hi - I recently picked up a .280 Ackley Improved. I am looking to try Reloder 26 in it as I have a bottle. Wondering if someone would be willing to help me out with a QuickLoad run for SAAMI spec's until I can dial in the specifics of my rifle's chamber and ideal bullet seating depths? Rifle...

    QL Request - 28 Nosler

QL Request - looking to verify results from trip to range

Would it be possible to get Quickload results for a 3.400" COAL for my 28 Nosler? My chamber gives me .029" to the lands with that OAL and with 86.6 grains of Reloder 33 I was averaging 3220fps in 28 degree weather. I went to reprime this brass and the primers went in too easy for my comfort...

QL Request - looking to verify results from trip to range

Well, spoke to someone at Nosler. He's a little more concerned and disagrees with Alliant's assessment. He believes I have more pressure due to the bullet being closer to the lands, not less, and recommended I not go much father and quite possibly back off the powder charge a bit but certainly...

QL Request - looking to verify results from trip to range

Called Alliant. Went over everything with them, they feel I should have no issues with pressure due to the additional case capacity from seating the bullet longer and staying almost a grain and a half under Nosler's max loading figure. Waiting on a return call from Nosler to see if they also...

Agreed. For now the partition will have to do.

QL Request - looking to verify results from trip to range

Luckily I don't intend to be shooting this more than I need to to be comfortable. This is my big game rifle. But yeah for 3200fps at 175 grains... that'll give a lot of critters a Nosler nap. Just gotta do my part.

QL Request - looking to verify results from trip to range

I have not tried the hornady bullets but I did a whole series of experiments with 200 grain partitions probably about a year ago. I have a post on here that went about four pages deep with my results and some back and forth discussions. I think I was able to push them up to 2425fps range. I try...

QL Request - looking to verify results from trip to range

No I didn't think you were being short. I just tend to type like the conversation I have with myself in my head. It's a problem. But at least the three of us up in my head tend to get along.... I think this may warrant a call to Alliant. Boy was that load accurate for me. I was surprised by the...

QL Request - looking to verify results from trip to range

I'm seating the bullet out further but it's still almost .03" to the lands so I'm kind of surprised by the pressure warnings. I'm kind of curious what QL says about the factory data. I can pull one of my bullets from a round I didn't shoot and re weigh the charge but I am fairly certain the...

QL Request - looking to verify results from trip to range

Strange quickload says these are all dangerous loads they are will within Noslers published load data.

QL Request - looking to verify results from trip to range

Temperature around 28 degrees F First request: 308 Winchester, 20" barrel. 1:10 twist Reloder 17. 180 grain Nosler partitions. 2.855" OAL With 47.0 grains of R17, averaged 2600fps over 4 shots. This was my lay accurate load. I'm wondering what QL thinks of the pressures here, and how this load...

28 Nosler Results (Savage 7mm Rem Mag Conversion Project)

The maximum length I was planning on loading to is .029 off the lands, so still a bit of a jump which should give me enough margin to help with keeping pressure down. Plus, from what I am reading, Partitions tend to like a bit of a jump to the lands. My tests will be .029, .049, and .069 to...

28 Nosler Results (Savage 7mm Rem Mag Conversion Project)

I don't know if its too much trouble, but could someone generate something in Quick Load for me? I'm going to be trying three different seating depths (3.360, 3.380, and 3.400) each at three different powder charges (86.6gr, 86.gr, 87.0gr). All Using Reloder 33, All using 175 grain Nosler...

28 Nosler Results (Savage 7mm Rem Mag Conversion Project)

A local smith did all the work for me, but the model 111 has a detachable magazine. He did shave down the front lip a bit so the fatter rounds didn't get hung up. Other than that, my 4+1 mag was reduced to a 2+1 but for this type of hunting, I don't see that as a hindrance.
