If both have a 26 inch barrel, how does the 25-06 ackley compare to the 257 weatherby? Which one would you rather have? Why?

I may just have a fast 25-06, but I would try Retumbo in a 25-06 AI after what I seen it do from my standard 25-06.

With a 24" bbl, standard 25-06 rem, 100g NBT's, 60.5g Retumbo, I am getting 3520fps, with 115g VLD's, 58.5g Retumbo, I am getting 3275fps.

With 2" more bbl and AI'ing, I'm sure theres an easy 100-150fps added right there.

You'll be in 257 WM territory with a 25-06 AI and a 26" tube, especially if you tinker with powders and find what it really likes...And the best part is, you have no belt, and your still burning almost 10g less powder!!!

Perhaps it is the looks, perhaps the name, perhaps the accuracy that I get (1 hole group), or even the feel. I like the ackly, my brother shoots one for varmits and coyotes, but the ,257 wby is my go to rifle for most deer and antelope, even hogs.

You're not kidding. I form from 7mm Rem which takes alot of time and effort, but saves some money. If I could form from 270 brass it would be quite a bit cheaper and use less powder. I really like how my 257 Vanguard shoots, but I don't really push it to the limit to begin with and it's got a 24inch tube. So, I could have went with a 25-06 AI without noticing the difference. It is a great round either in standard or AI configuration.
The wby is certainly a great round, but like most weatherby chamberings is expensive to shoot.

I remember when you were a little concerned about how long the throat was compared to the magazine.
But Then it shot reall well for you and I don't think I have herd from you since.

He as a Shiilen barreled custom now. It is not a Winchester 70.

With the std. 25-06 & 257 Roy having 26" barrels & reloads at the same pressure, the Roy will be about 250FPS faster. The AI is about 125FPS
faster than the std. round, so roughly the AI is 100fps slower than the WEA.

In other words, the 26"AI is about the same speed as a 24" Vanguard Roy
on average, of course either could havew a "fast" or "slow" tube.

I have a Sendero 26" in 25-06 AI, I have not been able to see a valid reason to spring for the Wea. , that is, no reason for ME to do it. I do understand someone wanting to start from scratch with a 257 wea. I may try one someday with a 27-28" barrel or the same long tube in 300WM/25.
I researched the 257 STW for a while & it was too much of a good thing.

Today was the first 100gr B-tips I've put through my Rem 700 in .257 Bee.
70gr of 7828 gave me right @ 3500 fps.

69.0 grains of 7828 w/110 A-bonds I see 3389 fps and the best accuracy as stated in the Nosler book.

I didn't measure these this time... the 110gr A-bonds last time shot under half an inch.

The 100gr B-tips this time shot basically as fast as I could go ( also mention this was prone off the ground ) was I'd guess an inch and a half.
I have five more loaded to try with 71grains.
This one with DEFINATELY make the next yote hunting trip ! I put the 6 X 18 Leupy on it with the varmit hunter reticle.... :grin:
