Stick with 140 gr. partitions or x bullets in that .264 for better long range accuracy and penetration. You will love the round my son has one on the way also.
The 140 Gr. Partition works great in the .264 as does the 130 x bullet. They hold together way better than the lighter bullets and off better penetration also. I have used them for 20 years with no gripes on game up to elk and kudu size.
For all the hunting I have left to do, and hopefully that will include one more plains game trip, I will stick with a hotrod 6.5 of some kind. They have performed well for me all my life and I don't think I will be switching anytime soon.
My son hit a bull this pat year at about 300 yds in the hip pocket from the rear. The 125 Gr. partition shattered the pelvis at the joint on the rigt side . Bull got up and requireed a finisher at about 10 feet. We could not have asked much more of this bullet.
I really want to try the...
I have used a 6.5-.284 here in the west for the last several years with great results. My son has used a .260 with almost the same results. I highly reccomend either of these rounds for general hunting. The .260 will to attain the velocity of the other but seems to have just as good effect on...
6.5x.284 is the latest favorite. several one shot kills on elk and a great lang range deer getter. All with x bullets and partitions. Also great on whistle pigs with 100 gr. bullets.
just 1 on a n ass shot on a kudu. It went in about 1" to the rt of the tail and penetrated over 30" of kudu. He needed a finisher but I was pleased with it's performance.
On my one and only plains game trip I used x bullets on everything from Gemsbok to Eland in a .264 . I would not hesatate to use partitions but you want a tough bullet that will penetrate well. Enjoy your hunt !!
